Project Word – ExxonMobil and Aceh

I spent a good chunk of this summer and fall editing the radio portion of a multimedia project with my old boss from Terrain Magazine and a kickass young reporter Emily Johnson. This was for Project Word, a non-for-profit that helps give voice to underrepresented journalists and stories.

It’s the story of oil giant ExxonMobil and the atrocities they committed in Aceh, Indonesia, all wrapped up in many years of civil unrest and a highly complicated Supreme Court case. It’s one of the most challenging pieces I’ve worked on.

The radio piece ended up airing on Free Speech Radio News. Print versions ran in the Dallas Morning News and Mother Jones online. The full multimedia package is HERE.

Audio Slideshow – Ron Haviv, Congo

I recently completed a series of three audio slideshows in collaboration with Thomas Keenan of Bard College’s Human Rights Project and the VII Photo Agency for the Zoom Photo Festival in Quebec. Each show highlights the experiences of a photojournalist working with an NGO in a war-torn region. The first is about photographer Ron Haviv working with the International Committee of the Red Cross in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in January 2009. He documented the efforts of the ICRC to reunited lost children with their families among other things.

Audio Slideshow – Richard Holmes, CHF

Award-winning author Richard Holmes visited CHF in March 2010 to discuss his book The Age of Wonder: The Romantic Generation and the Discovery of the Beauty and Terror of Science. I produced this audio slideshow to highlight some of the most interesting aspects of his book which discusses the links between the literature and science of the Romantic Period.
